Abstract

The article addresses the impact of illiberal democracy and populism on the rule of law. In the first place, the suitability of the concept of illiberal democracy is discussed, which from the theoretical and normative point of view is an oxymoron. Second, the link between liberal democracy and populism is addressed, assuming that this one an inherent element. Finally, the illiberal practices of some modern democracies, their common guidelines and how this affects the rule of law are analyzed.
