Democratic legitimacy of the supranational power

Abstract

This article analyzes critically the different doctrinal justification of the legitimacy of the supranational power, using the EU as the reference example. The aim of this paper is to establish to what extent each one of the models respect the democratic standards (sovereignty, human rights, rule of law). Besides, the text does propose the ideal model.
