Abstract

The Saxon legal system was the forerunner of the complicated judicial system that for centuries governed the operation of the English courts of justice. From a perspective of belonging to the family and to a specific social group, it was linked too, to the fragmentary social order that followed the fall of the Roman Empire.
Nevertheless, this situation evolved into a more complex legal and judicial system based on a more hierarchical social structure in which property was of essential importance and in which the economic value of the individual and his word occupied an essential role.
